Through painting I strive to capture that shining, elusive element which, though everywhere, is only glimpsed briefly and held rarely.  Complementary colors, vivid contrasts, impasto, and asymmetries are the tools with which I express the subject.  These are chosen declare in strong visual terms the subject’s likeness and character.  For over twenty years, this has been the great challenge of portrait and figure work:  to capture the subject’s unique nature in a way that resonates with the individual and those that best know her or him.
